President Donald Trump may not recognize Pride Month anymore. But his most famous property will host the Log Cabin Republicans of New York City’s annual PrideRight event in the city.
That event will take place at Trump Tower on June 28. Organizers are selling tickets for nonmembers at $175 each, with members getting in for $150.
“Join us for an unforgettable evening in one of New York City’s most legendary venues,” reads a promotion on the Log Cabin Republicans’ website. “Enjoy passed hors d’oeuvres and a PREMIUM OPEN BAR as you connect with LGBT conservatives and allies from across the Tri-State area.”
The group promises a full line-up of guest speakers, though none have been announced to date.
The announcement comes as Trump's press secretary Karoline Leavitt avoided a question about Trump recognizing June as Pride Month, according to The Independent.
“There are no plans for a proclamation for the month of June,” Leavitt said during a press briefing last week. “But I can tell you this president is very proud to be a president for all Americans, regardless of race, religion, or creed.”
The Independent noted that Trump didn't officially recognize Pride Month during his first term, however, he did post about it on social media.
During this term, Trump and his administration have repeatedly targted transgender people in policies, and some have targeted LGBTQ+ people in general.. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is changing the name of a Navy ship honoring gay rights activist Harvey Milk. He has also spearheaded Trump's trans military ban.
Log Cabin Republicans, the nation’s most prominent LGBTQ+ GOP group, has long stood by Trump even as his political agenda became increasingly homophobic and transphobic. And for what it’s worth, Trump’s administration has kept at least some connection to the organization. For example, First Lady Melania Trump spoke last year at Log Cabin Republican events, granted, for a remarkable fee.
It's unclear what Log Cabin Republicans’ New York chapter is paying to rent space at Trump Tower for the event, but the group bills the venue as an exclusive locale.
Promotional material also list several significant GOP groups as event sponsors, including the Women’s National Republican Club, New York State Republican Party, Manhattan Republican Party, Young Republicans National Federation, Metropolitan Republican, New York State Republican Assembly Campaign Committee, the College Republican New York Federation.
But LGBTQ Nation notes none of those groups have independently promoted the event.
Other groups like the Maverick PAC and the Gay Officers Action League New England chapter are also listed as event sponsors.
